Media Content Delievery PMO
This client develops and supplies streaming media technology and networking infrastructure to telecoms businesses worldwide. They asked Eastyoke to investigate why their projects routinely missed deadlines and overran budgets. Eastyoke conducted an audit of recent projects and identified a number of recurring issues with project delivery. We recommended that the client establish a PMO to encourage best practice in project management and to provide the board with better oversight of development projects. Eastyoke provided an interim manager to set up and run the PMO, embed the processes and then supported an in-house manager to take over the running of the PMO.
Smart Meter Systems
Eastyoke’s client is a global leader in metering solutions for the electricity distribution industry. The client has used Eastyoke interim managers to lead the development of new smart meters for the residential marketplace. The development programme’s objective was to deliver a reliable automated meter reading (AMR) and wireless telemetry solution in a robust, low cost unit suitable for high volume (>1m units) manufacture. The system had to meet stringent European safety & regulatory requirements and had to be integrated with the underlying comms and customer database infrastructure. The development programme was completed successfully and the units are currently being delivered to a major utility company for deployment to consumers in the UK.
The programme supports the UK government’s drive to improve energy efficiency, reduce energy costs and contribute to a sustainable use of resources.
Financial Systems – Pensions Administration
More than 2 million pensioners throughout the world receiving total pension payments in excess of £7 billion a year are reliant on our client to provide an efficient pensions administration service. Eastyoke has worked with this client – one of the largest providers of outsourced financial services in the UK – helping to deliver new and improved pensions administration, payroll and annuity services.
During periods of peak demand, this client has asked Eastyoke to provide interim project managers, business analysts and systems integration specialists to support the takeover of group pensions administration schemes and the implementation and test of new pensions, payroll and annuities administration systems.
IPTV / Pay TV
Our client develops and markets digital TV technologies (eg IPTV) and applications (eg Video on Demand) for telecoms network operators and service providers worldwide. They selected an Eastyoke Interim Manager to turn around a late-running development programme. This programme involved the development of a new digital entertainment system for large hotel chains. The technology scope included set top box development, content (eg movies) storage and download, conditional access and payment systems.
Once the development phase was complete, the client asked Eastyoke’s project manager to stay on for a further 6 months to plan, organise and implement the roll out of the new system across a well known chain of European budget hotels. Installation in the hotels involved liaising with multiple parties including the customer (ie hotel chain) corporate HQ, hotel estate management, building services contractors, etc.
All in all, Eastyoke’s Project Manager worked with the client for 15 months, successfully turning around the development programme and ensuring the system was delivered to the lead customer on time and within budget.
Our client is renowned globally for its technology breakthroughs and business service innovation.
Reporting to the General Manager in California, Eastyoke’s mission was to take mobile technology from the corporate research centre and commercialise it as an wireless consumer service.
Eastyoke’s brief was wide-ranging and included:
- Finding premises for the UK based development team
- Recruiting software developers, test engineers and admin staff
- Outsourcing part of the development to India
- Running trials of the prototype product with network operators
- Supporting the product launch
Following a successful launch at Comdex & CeBIT, our final task was to handover the new service to the Client’s operational management.
